Chairman’s Message
On Saturday 12th November 2011 visiting Societies led by Rye and District Bonfire Society processed through Rye with flaming torches, drum bands, floats and walkers from local groups and, bringing up the rear our Dragon, Scorcher and, symbol of the Society, The Burning Boat. The procession wound it’s way through the town to the Salts where a ‘Normous Bonfire’ was lit, followed by an excellent firework display.
We have the hard working society members to thank for their fund raising efforts with auctions, boot fairs, fishing competitions, clay pigeon shoot, quiz nights, etc. to make this spectacular event; not forgetting the assistance of members of neighbouring societies, particularly Robertsbridge and Hastings.
We hope that you enjoyed your visit to this year’s event and dug deep into your pockets for all that loose change to feed the collecting buckets. The Rye Bonfire Society has raised and distributed many thousands of pounds of charity funding for good causes in and around Rye so join in and make this happen. We need to raise £10,000 a year to stage this spectacular event.
You are welcome to join us as new members to raise funds, dress up and collect or become a marshal – WE NEED YOU! Especially the youth of Rye.
Thank you for visiting the web site.
